About Us

In 1947, L. Willard Nelson established a law practice at 209 E. Main Street, Morrison, Illinois.  Over the years the firm has grown and is now known as Nelson, Kilgus, Richey & Buckwalter-Schurman.

  • In 1968 Walter C. Kilgus joined the firm and became a partner in 1970.
  • Lon Richey joined the firm in 1977 and became a partner in 1980.
  • In 2007, Michelle Buckwalter-Schurman joined the firm as partner.

Today, the firm continues to provide legal services at 209 E. Main Street, Morrison, Illinois, the site chosen by its founder, L. Willard Nelson.

The firm’s lawyers are engaged in the general practice of law serving clients in Illinois.  They represent many local businesses, banks, municipalities, insurance companies, and individuals with respect to both litigation and business matters. The firm’s practice includes contracts, commercial law, employment, bankruptcy, taxation, real estate, probate, estate planning, criminal law, family law, landlord-tenant and collections.

The firm of Nelson, Kilgus, Richey & Buckwalter-Schurman is engaged in civil trial and appellate practice in the areas of personal injury, family law, probate, criminal law and municipalities .

All attorneys in the firm are licensed to practice in Illinois.  Members of the firm regularly appear before state trial and appellate courts in Illinois.  Members are active in the community and the various bar associations to which they belong.
